The original surgery had been scheduled for last Thursday – the same day that the lights went out in Tijuana, and most of California, stretching to Las Vegas and leaving over 5 million people without electricity. That afternoon we were very grateful that once again we had made the right decision at the right time.
Now the ordeal is over. Len has a colostomy bag that can be easily reversed when we manage to kill off the cancer. The entire surgery lasted for about 2 1/2 hours. The surgeon, Dr Cedeno, said that half the time was doing the hemorrhoids that have plagued Lennie for so long. We knew that the tumor would not be touched, but had hoped that some of the blood supply to it would be cut and cauterized. Unfortunately it was too vascular and that could not be done. The liver, under the surgeon’s hands has a hard mass that is contained to the left side with the entire right side being very healthy.
So now we have 2 tumors to deal with – one in Lennie’s colon and one in his liver. As Lennie put it, “All I have now is two tumors to get rid of!” It is all in your point of view.
We may not have time on our side, but we do have love on our side. And love is a friend of time. We still have many months of therapies and supplements, but for now… heaven can wait.
I love you Lennie Schneider,
Kathryn
